I went in for a glucose test for gestational diabetes yesterday and it was positive. :(  So now I have to go back for a more thorough test on Monday to determine if I do in fact have diabetes... also, next Wednesday I have to go in to see if I have confirmed high blood pressure as well. Both pregnancy issues have been present in my immediate family ( Read more... )

Oh sad! When is your screening on Monday? Sending good vibes in your direction.

Marie has done a lot of research on this recently (in the last day or so), and I'm sure would love to talk to you about it.

Much love.

Oh, sweetie! I'm sorry! Most women who get a positive on the screening test go on to get a negative on the 3 hour test. Do you happen to know what your number on the test was?

Here's an excellent link to explain the three hour test: http://www.babycenter.com/0_glucose-screening-and-glucose-tolerance-test_1483.bc?articleId=1483&showAll=true

I'll be thinking about you Monday and sending you good vibes for low numbers! Let me know if you have any questions or if you just want to talk some. *hugs*

They said my number was 164 and they said that was "elevated" they didn't say how bad or how good which I don't know if it's good they didn't go into details or bad. :( I looked for a readout on how bad 164 is or any information on it but just kept finding sites that explained what gestational diabetes is... I know what it is!! lol. Thanks for the good vibes both of you and thanks for a link that's got more information then anything I could find! It's just kinda put a raincloud over the day. Hmmmms pooh bear ... "I'm just a little black rain cloud... hovering over ... the honey tree"...

You want to be below 140 for the initial test. Did you have anything to eat or drink within 3 hours of taking the test (other than the horrible glucose drink, of course)? Stress can also elevate glucose levels apaprently.

I read on that site you gave me that if you are between 140 and 200 they send you in for the second test. But I also read there that I wasn't expected to fast from the night before this test but I did because I thought it would be safer to then to find out I was supposed to and then couldn't take my test. That website said that if I had fasted after an hour it should be below I think it said 180 and I was at least below that... I'm hoping that means when I go in it will be negative. Kelly said last night that her first test tested positive and then her second came out negative... I'm hoping for that... even though I wish I didn't have to take the second one at all because everyone I talk to says it's terrible... a few people have said they had a really hard time not throwing up during it. Yuk! :(
