You don't remember when we first went down there, do you?

You know, the stairs. Those stairs. You decided to follow The Woman down there one morning. She was doing laundry or something. I thought we were playing school in your bedroom using the wallpaper as a blackboard and one of The Man's fancy pens as chalk. I was teaching you how to draw ( Read more... )

I can envision the 2 children! So much is scary when you're young!

Spiral staircases are especially frightening, even more so if they're out in the open as opposed to being behind doors. I remember another staircase like that at a family friend's that was open. I believe it went up to the second floor. Wouldn't get on it no matter what because I was convinced I was going to fall through the spaces!

Thank you! I was hoping to evoke that "little kid afraid" feeling.

I have a wooden, spiral staircase in my house, and I'm picturing the whole story taking place there. :) My daughter is (nearly) two years old, and she has zero interest in those steps. I think they're pretty intimidating.

I had no interest in these particular stairs until I was about maybe 4 or 5 because wherever it went seemed so mysterious to me. When I was finally allowed down there, it was just a laundry room and the furnace! I thought there were monsters living there!

I loved this! My sister and I used to pretend our stairs were mountains all the time when we were younger :)

I used to pretend our backyard was somewhere in Outer Mongolia during the winter, and I was Famous Female Newscaster reporting on the disappearance of abombinable snowmen :)
