Thanks! I had heard that Budapest is the Paris of Eastern Europe and at night it really feels like it. It was such a beautiful city.
Seeing the contrast between the historical parts of the city and the parts built during Communism was really startling. I also was very ignorant about how tumultuous the country's past is. They were almost always occupied or at war!
Your picture posts has me itching to travel even more (see recent LJ post) and I think living in Amsterdam sounds like a wonderful adventure. I had never thought much about going to Budapest, but recently I've heard several friends say it's one of their favorite destinations and another say it's the one place she wants to travel next. I can see why - it's beautiful and fascinating.
Well to be honest, we ended up going because it was the cheapest place to fly to that time of the year. We got flights for both of us for €90! We had heard great things about it as well, but it had never been at the top of our Must Do in Europe list. After going, I definitely recommend it to other people. Next time we go, I really want to go to a bath house. We didn't bring our bathing suits and neither of us are confident/comfortable with going nude.
If you do get to come out to Europe and need some tips, ideas, help, let me know. :)
