You should try brandy. Knocks me out every time. [She's certain she'll be needing some tonight.] Sorry about, er. Finding you. So what happens now? Is there like, some super-secret werewolf society that's going to be stalking me forever to make sure I never reveal your existence?
Werewolf metabolism means alcohol doesn't affect me as much as normal people. Plus I shouldn't drink alone because that way lies badness. As a bonus, there's no hangover with the wolfing.
And it's not like this is a really a huge secret, not for me. Everyone important in my life knows, and we've all... adjusted. It's actually a feature, not a bug, especially in my line of work.
I'm a PI. So, the enhanced senses plus fast healing from anything that's not silver, wolfsbane, or rowan is a bonus. I got shot in the heart a few months ago. Nearly killed me and might have anyway if I hadn't had people right there to dig the bullet out and squirt in some superglue, but if I was human I'd have been dead. Hell, I don't even scar anymore, mostly. [His eyes flick down to the handcuff scars ringing his wrists.] Those happened before.
But the cane happened after. There's only so much can be done for... [His mouth twists.] Well. It was highly unpleasant.
[She sighs.] Shit happens. [Her tone isn't flippant; it's resigned, almost tired.] But, hey. You're still kickin'. Which is good, because I'm pretty sure this will be my only chance in life to meet a werewolf that didn't begin life at Spirit of Halloween.
So do you do regular PI work, or supernatural stuff? [She perks up.] Wait, are there more of you? Well, other creatures I mean. Like vampires and stuff?
Of course. [She sounds mildly offended.] A lady never leaves home without her hunting knife.
Little of both, actually. Had a vampire client last year. Embezzling case. Was how I met my-- [He stops, considering, and then shrugs. In for a penny...]
Well, not so much with the halo, but he's got a sharp and shiny sword and a set of kick-ass wings. Yeah, they're real. You've probably got one too, unless you're into something that's uber-evil and the demons surrounding you killed him. That's pretty rare, though. But that whole thing about "entertaining angels unaware" is pretty factual. It's possible you met one or more and never knew it.
Reminds me I've been neglecting my cracktastic angel!Guerrero 'verse for a while.the_scrappyJuly 31 2011, 01:20:15 UTC
So, what? He just strolled up and said, "Hi, I'm your guardian angel?" [Her lip twitches.] I'm gonna guess mine quit out of sheer exasperation. I would've by now.
[Which doesn't stop her from glancing around to see if she can spot him. Her. Whatever gender her maybe-angel happens to be. As for anyone she knows being an angel...she's having a hard time imagining it.]
Oooo... I love that notion and want to have its babies.werewolf_hackerJuly 31 2011, 01:27:14 UTC
He was just on General Duty at the time, and I was in a pretty bad way. He helped me out, and I could smell what he was. [He taps the side of his nose.] Yanked me right out of a vamp-induced flashback. So, we became friends, and he eventually requested me for his Charge. We got... pretty close.
And then-- [A breath. It still hurts, even though he's got faith that Dad knows what He's doing.] He got reassigned. And the new guy, part of his Orders is to remain unseen. Guess maybe Dad thought I was leaning on Guri too much or something.
[A shrug.] I probably was. But they love us, Ames. They might get exasperated or whatever, and hoarse from screaming when you refuse to hear, but they'll always love us.
XD I'd only meant it to be a one-off thing, but it ended up being a series of ficlets. Want a link?the_scrappyJuly 31 2011, 01:52:34 UTC
Well...do you guys still get to talk, or hang out? Do angels get vacations? [She furrows her brow.] Wait. Your dad's an angel? How does that work?
[As for being loved, well, she's not sure what to say to that. She settles for a faint smile and another peek over her shoulder.] Wish I'd known they were there. I'd have at least made an effort to do only half the stupid things I've done.
[Darn his verbal quirks.] Dad. [He points up.] You know. The Father. God. Guri calls Him "Dad" and I got in the habit myself.
I got a visit from Guri not too long ago, he got some time off to come see how I was doing. Not so hot, as it turned out, but it did me a world of good and we kicked some demon ass and I only ended up bleeding a little that time. Would've been worse if he hadn't gotten the rowan bark out of my scalp from when the demon tossed me headfirst into a tree, but. [A shrug.] Not the worst we've faced together.
And now you know, right? That little cartoon with the angel on one shoulder and the demon on the other, yelling conflicting advice? Isn't actually that far off the mark, funnily enough.
Demons? [She says it in the faint voice of one who's starting to realize that she's way out of her depth.] Were they...escaping, or something? From hell?
Wait, demons are following me too? [Then, thinking back on what he'd said.] And they can kill angels, huh? Just...just how bad does one have to be for that to happen?
ooc: Here you go! I was too lazy to upload all the ficlets to my LJ, so the latter two ended up on FF.net

Your line of work? Are you a P.I.? An assassin?

[A beat, then she offers her hand.] Name's Ames.

I hope that if you're jogging in the park this late at night, you're at least armed and know how to take care of yourself.
