me: I learned today (and it makes sense) that the term originated in architecture, in reaction to the International Style of architecture. International Style being fronted by architects like Le Corbusier.

I forgot to note this earlier, but the other day I saw a woman with close cropped hair, with the Tori Amos line "hard to hide a hundred girls in your hair" tattooed along her hairline, from ear to ear, along the nape of her neck.
