Think pink!

Nov 05, 2007 18:06

Now that we're into November, the countdown is on for our annual 'gingerbread house decorating get-together.' Usually I don't give the project half a thought until the day my friends and I get together to *do* the houses...and then I panic because I can't think of a creative way to use the candy/pretzels/other decorations in a way that's different ( Read more... )

This is TOTALLY off topic (sorry!), but I was wondering if it is okay if I could archive your stories at

http://thelastship.org/eFiction331/index.php

This is a new archive for ALL stories if you have just written one LOTR fic with Frodo or an RPS fic with Elijah in it. :-) Can you point me to all your stories?

Wow! A new archive! And thank you *so* much for still remembering me and thinking about my fics...considering I write so little nowadays. Handily enough, all my fics up at:

http://www.fichorde.com/viewuser.php?uid=9

The LotR fics are at the very beginning and then it goes into the other fandoms I've written in, but the LotR stuff is listed first. I *don't* think my last couple of fics are actually up on the archive, so if you let me know when you'll be sending that link to whomever you're sending it to, I'll see if can locate/upload the wayward fics. :)

Again, thank you so much! I think about you all the time, and wonder how your work is going, how your birdie is, etc. :), even though I don't spend a lot of time on LJ anymore.

OMG. NO, I hadn't heard, but that's my fault because I've just been away from LJ so much. OMG. But they still have the internet there, right? So we won't lose you entirely???

Fondant patties usually come in pastel colors, and so do pillow mints and Jordan Almonds--you could pick the pink ones out. In fact, some time back in the wedding section of Michael's they had the pillow mints and Jordan almonds in a pink-and-white only mix--but that was a few years ago, so I don't know if they still have them.

And if you want dark pink, there's raspberry twizzlers!

Thanks for the suggestion of looking at Michael's. That's a great idea! And raspberry twizzlers? I've never seen those before! Mmmmm! I'll have to look for those!

Thank you for all your ideas! :)

M&Ms, and about the new dark pink (raspberry?) ones they've come out with

Ooooh, I didn't know that.

Good & Plenty was my first thought!

Yes, a fellow teacher brought a bag into school one week about a month ago, for us to try. I would have bet anything that they'd be dark chocolate, because M&Ms has the new dark chocolate candies and dark chocolate goes so well with raspberry. But they're with light chocolate. Which is good, since I really despise dark. Although I really didn't care too much for the whole raspberry taste of them overall anyway... :)

But yes, they have them, and it shouldn't be a problem finding them since they're relatively new. Now, the light pink ones I'm a little worried about, because if they're just out for Breast Cancer Awareness month, then they might disappear before I can get hold of a bag of them. Guess I better start looking for them NOW. :)

Have been thinking about you lots and hoping things are going well in your little corner of the world. :)

Thanks, Ana. The fires were awful, and very scary. And they're still not out! But mom and I were very lucky to live in a relatively unaffected area.

I have a friend who lives about 1/2 hour south of Fresno, and even *they* were seeing/feeling/smelling the affects of the fires. I'm so glad you have come through safe and sound. Those fires were/are something awful. I can't imagine living near them, worrying constantly about where they would head next and what would have to be evacuated. No one needs stress or the fear of something like that.

Not to pee on your parade, but the stupid tic tacs are WHITE in a pink box! I know, totally false advertising, I was disapointed. But, the pink M&M's in the breast cancer awareness bags actually have TWO colors of pink, so that's good.

If you are into a bit more work, you can get the white candy coating {its called candy bark some places} and tint it pink {you have to use oil based candy coloring though} and then dip in your pretzels and stuff. You can make a tree with an ice cream cone and put on pink frosting and little silver balls.

Well, I never actually went up to the Tic Tac boxes to look at them; I just saw them from afar and thought 'Oh, wow! Pink!' But OMG...that SUCKS that they're not actually pink. Although I *was* wondering what flavor they would be if they really were pink.

And yes, I use the 'bark' to cover pretzels and marshmallows when I make them to give away for the holidays. Sometimes it's called Almond Bark, I think, tho it's not almond flavored. And I was just looking at pics of our gingerbread houses from the last two years, and two years ago I had two trees on my 'display' that were made from icecream cones. :) They really *look* like trees...and they're really fun to decorate. :) Although we put little colored 'candy balls' on our trees, like Skittles, only smaller...but I love the idea of the silver balls. I'll have to check into that, too!

Thanks for all your ideas!

Do Jolly Ranchers come in pink? If so, you could use them to make the windows. Crushed and baked into window-shaped stained-glass cookies, that is.

There are also Wilton candy-melts. I'm pretty sure they come in pink, but if you can't find them, you can always mix the red and white ones--they're pretty common this time of year. Not only can you make molded candies out of them, you can use them to coat cookies and pretzels.

And you can tint coconut pink by adding a drop or so of red food coloring to coconut in a bag and shaking it.

There are also pink candy canes, filled raspberries (YUM!), Jelly Bellies, some varieties of peppermint bark, and pink-tinted home-made sugar cookies.

Oh, and check the Hispanic cookies section at the supermarket. Some of them are pink.

Have fun!

OOOOOH!! LOTS of great ideas!! And it hilarious, because *just* tonight in the shower, I suddenly thought about pink wafer cookies. And then my mom called from work on her break and said she'd *just* thought about pink wafer cookies. She said she thought they had them at their store (a Walgreens) and *I* said "Well, if not, I think they have them in the Mexican food aisle at my grocery store." Apparently great minds think alike. :) :) :)

Yes, I think Jolly Ranchers *do* come in pink. Oh! YES they DO!! My FAVORITE flavor is the Watermelon, and that is DEFINITELY PINK. And I know a candy store where I can buy *just* the individual colors of the candies, so I'll have to stop and get some of those. :) Ohhhhhhh...I'll have to think about the colored coconut, too. I'm SURE I can find a use for that, even if THAT'S what I finally decide to use for the ground covering, to make it all pink.

Thanks again for all your wonderful ideas!!!!
