Setting real goals…

Since the kids went back to school I set a deadline for me to end this rewrite of my current MS, the end of September or the beginning o October.

But that wasn't very good of me. I set a goal that will put a lot of pressure on myself because I haven’t thought about all the things that come with the beginning of a new school year. All the lists of ( Read more... )

goals, writing

ADHD and homework just sounds like a terrible combination!! Huge sympathy to both of you!

And I think I avoid setting realistic goals by just trying stuff, and then retroactively "setting goals" for the stuff that worked. Total avoidance, and not very helpful, I know.

I definitely just take the chance to write when I get it -- and sometimes that means not setting concrete goals at all :(

(P.S. I'll try to get you another four chapters in the next few days!)

I know, sometimes life doesn't even let's us set goals but at least we can do what we like sometimes.
PS don't worry about the chapters I know you're having a lot happening right now. I didn't want to pressure you.

Your goal should be to write every day. Or a certain amount of days per week. The thing is, we can never really know how long a story is going to take to finish. All you can do is promise yourself to keep writing. When it's done, it's done. A goal isn't going to make that happen. Writing will.

Oh Terri you always give me the best advice. To write certain time a day is easier for me to achieve, I could set small amounts of time in the beginning to see how it goes. Thank you :)

I tend to know what I can realistic produce in a set time period based on what I have going on. And sometimes, life gets in the way and goals have to be adjusted. It seems this never ends. I see published authors push back release dates because 'life got in the way' on a regular basis.

At the moment, I have NO writing goal other than to get back to it when it feels right.
