Well, I have to say that after years of resisting, I will concede that my sister is right, and Korean dramas are way better than I expected them to be. In fact, they are very much like books (much more so than movies), with 16-20 episodes or so (that's a full hour for an episode), which allows for a ton more plot and character development than any ( Read more... )

I normally don't watch much TV because it isn't as satisfying to me as books, but my sister hooked me on this fantastic Korean TV show called W - Two Worlds. It's a portal story about some characters who live in a comic book world, and some other people who live in the real-life world of the comic artist, whose daughter is a cardiology intern. I'm finding myself in this little bubble of time where my manuscript is off for critique and I am not working on anything. It is WEIRD. (It took me four years to write this book.) I have a Goodreads account, but I never know what to do with it. I wish there wasn't always that star rating attached to leaving reviews in places, because it just doesn't fit the way I read a book. I know we've only been here since August, but when you have five kids in the school system, you get a pretty good cross section of how the district works. If you've got only one year to be in Alabama, I'd say make it your 5th grade year. They study the colonial period and the Revolution that year, and it's been really fun for my 5th grader. February is that time of year when everything is still gray, and we end up taking the least amount of photos. But Alabama is somewhat less gray. And at least it has trees! So, here is a fun (true) Cinderella story. I've been doing Czech genealogy with this distant relative, who recently ran across Berta Czuber (b. 1879). (Not literally, I mean in the records.)
