I saw the movie Cloud Atlas this week. It's gorgeous. My favourite movie I've seen in ages.

I read David Mitchell's book about 5 or so years ago, lightly skimming the many pages in short bursts and zeroing in on the parts that caught my attention. So I didn't remember it very well when I sat down in the movie theatre this week. That turned out to be

Here's a start: biggest changes from the book to the movie

Nice! So I did remember the Somni storyline correctly. The betrayal of the rebellion being orchestrated by the government. The other changes I don't remember. That's really cute about Javier Gomez growing up to write the Luisa Rey mystery, which then gets published by Timothy Cavendish!

It seems like the film is a decidedly different vision of the book in some ways. Not that that's at all a bad thing! I like that the the film-makers chose to highlight the emotions and bring forward love as a major theme. They made a wonderful movie!
