I will say one thing about America... we have this bizarre notion that if we throw money at something, the problem will go away. Unfortunately this is often not the correct way of dealing with problems.

Granted, funding is obviously an issue for many programs, but to throw money at it means you don't REALLY have to think about what is happening.. but if someone asks you can proudly tell them, "I donated!". Bah!

You are SO right and it's not just an American problem, either. Donations are a great way of alleviating one's guilt without actually DOING anything.

I hear you. Everyones so materialistic, it's sickening. Especially since we enjoy such a good quality of life. It's what depresses me at Christmastime, but I also see it year round...

I'm a ray of sunshine, aren't I? Haha
