"Uh-ohhhhh-" She cut off when George spoke, and Nita looked up, pulling the ponytail off her wrist to at least get her hair out of her face. "Hey," she said in return, sort of half-unburying herself from her comforter. It was everything, for her. Her Wizardry; not being able to hear again was like being shoved into a sensory deprevation tank or having a limb cut off. Add into that that Kit was still home, that her Dad - her dad had more gray then he had from the last time she remembered him, and he was getting older and she wasn't even there to see it. Tom and Carl - everybody was gone, and she was back here and maybe it would be another two years before she'd get to see them again ( ... )

"But yeah. Yeah, I could use a... pick me up." She forced a smile, knowing she looked as tired as she felt. "Someplace not here, right?" She was already starting to rummage through her hamper to grab some clean clothes.

George rubbed absently at the back of his own neck, looking to the ground as Nita crawled out of her bed. "So I'll just wait for you down--" he hooked his thumb over his shoulder, indicating a common space, and cocked his head to one side. He glanced up and smiled at her, backing out of the room.
"I'm timing you," he called weakly as he backed into the hallway. He wouldn't actually, but it was good to keep up at least the appearance of good humour.

Ten minutes later, she padded into the common area, her wet hair pulled back in a messy ponytail, and she at least looked sort of presentable. Her tank top had a streak of wet down the back of it from her hair, and she still looked tired, but her clothes were clean and she had flip-flops on.
"Hey," she said, her thumbs hooked in the back of her waistband. "Thanks for waiting. ... You okay?"
