You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me. -- CS Lewis

Remember the whole "only read books by specific peoples" thing going around this time last year? Well, while I felt that "only read" was a tad restrictive, I did agree that it certainly wouldn't hurt to broaden my reading outside my defaults. I just wasn't sure what my defaults were so I decided to keep track of who wrote what I read for pleasure ( Read more... )

Which book gave you the most pleasure?

That's a hard call but I'd have to say Pratchett's The Shepherd's Crown because of what it represented -- where pleasure could be defined as which book effected me the most. Loved it but so much externally applied sadness so... But on the other hand, I should go out so well.

I agree, broadening one's reading is much better than restricting it.

You can always use Goodreads to challenge yourself to read more than 30 books this year :)

I read 74 books this year (but that includes a few comics and kid's books) and I found it a cool challenge to read books with certain criteria to step out of my comfort zone. The most interesting were reading a book originally written in a different language (Night Watch and The Three-Body Problem were my choices here) and reading a book over 100 years old. I will admit I didn't complete them all, like a Pulitzer Prize-winning book, a play, and a book you were supposed to read in school but didn't (but I just don't know if I can ever bring myself to finish Pride and Prejudice, ugh).

This year, I'm going to read Great Expectations if it kills me. And it might. :)

It's not that bad. Not good, but not that bad.

Listening while driving, or doing dishes, or walking ... doubles the pleasure.
