So, as part of the kitchen renovation, we figured we'd do as much as we could on the cheap, so we got an Ikea floor. Simple, no fasteners or glue, it all locks into place, done in an hour, right ( Read more... )

The joys of owning an old house. I think my old house in Belmont had three (possibly four?) different types of wiring scattered around here and there. I'm just glad that I never found any aluminum wiring. (I can't guarantee there was no aluminum wiring, just that I never found any.)

I've only run across it in the connections between the ceiling boxes and light fixtures. While the homeowner used a rather organic wiring plan, he did at least love his armored cable, so we're better off than we would be with knob-and-tube (though there was a ton of that when we moved in).
