Poem for a Stormy Summer
RAINBOW

After the rain
races by
rinsing the air
bare.
After the storm,
winds waltz,
carrying cloudy curtains
aside.
Rays stretch sleepy arms,
unfurling pastel streamers
to drip dry
in a new
summer sky.

digging,

digging
until you reach the right depth
to meet your seeds’ needs.
After sowing,
the real work begins,

mind your sprouts,

Your bones creak
like dry branches in winter
when you try to conquer the ups

That's my cute husband on the left and ...Mr. Jon Voight! We were at a fund raiser last night for "Children of Chernobyl". They raise money to rescue children from the former Soviet Union, whose lives have been affected by the nuclear accident back in the late 1980's. Poem for a short, cold, end of November week
PLANTING HOPE

She tows hope outside
and lays it gently on the brown lawn,
prepared to sweat, digging
until the muscles
in her arms and back cry enough,
readying a deep hole
in the center of the garden.
Throughout the months
of bare branches
barren beds, void of life,
hope will sleep deep
in the dark depths
