The basis is that bulls are nasty, brutish animals. They are incredibly irritable and they kill anything that sets foot in their territory, it's what makes them so much fun to fight. A bull left to his own devices will often kill his offspring. Animals don't wear giant, scary horns as decoration. Any animal rights screed that tries to use the whole "the bull is a magical part of Gaia's beautifully interwoven nebula of faggotry blah blah so we should treat them like people" is being dishonest. The only way we can be expected to treat them "humanely" is through an admission that we are a higher order animal, because only then can we be held to a different standard than Ferdinand. And if that's the case, I'd say we're already doing a great job, considering that the average cow lives a much longer, healthier life than it would in the wild
