I presume it's flickr's attempt to limit casual image theft. It's very annoying. But there's always the source and you can't display an image on a website without having the image location in the source. Unless you use flash which is just annoying.

Mm, that's what I assumed it to be too. There was supposed to be an image in the first reply, but I just did a quick copy and paste of the link without checking what exactly it linked to. Hence comment number two.
