Gideon had noticed it on the day he did the week's schedule. If all went well, Monday would be their last taping day. Everything he needed would be all ready to be edited into a coherent movie that could be shown when it was ready. It was a big milestone and Gideon knew it. He never thought he'd ever fucking get this far in making this shit, and ( Read more... )

With the kind of accomplishment that this all was, Gideon figured he had every right to be in a pretty damn good mood. All things considered, with the island the way it was, it was almost fucking shocking he managed this with everyone at all, nevermind being able to see it to the end.

With the speech he'd figured he was required to say done, he got himself some food and hung out among the crowd. He figured it was one of those days he ought to be accessible.

Yeah, maybe he should just be celebrating and enjoying the fact that they'd finished the thing, that they'd really made something, but the first thing out of Jim's mouth when he hooks up with Gideon halfway through the party is:

"So we're going to do another one, right?"

It was a question he'd heard a couple of times already. Gideon hadn't actually fucking considered another movie. This one had been a hell of a lot of work, after all.

"It's possible," he replied, not wanting to put out the idea. He was definitely taking a break for a while, if only to relax. "It won't be for a fucking while, though. I'd need to write another script."

"I bet after this you'll get people handing you scripts, wanting you to make them," says Jim. "I hear that's what happens to movie people in Hollywood."

Stirring or not, Eden cheered and applauded when his speech was done, teasing but not entirely false. They'd done a damn good job and she knew it. The night was a celebration of work well-done and it was hard not to be outright giddy over their accomplishment.

"We couldn't have done it without you," she called back, starting to stand, then laughing a little as she eased back into her seat. It was amazing, like waking up from a dream, to see just how far they had all come - how far she had come.

"Ah, my fucking adoring crowd," he joked, flopping down into a seat next to her once everyone went back to eating shit and talking. Much as he figured his time would be divided up, he still gravitated to people he knew. He was always the most comfortable around Penny and Eden. "I'd give a bow, but that shit's way overdone."

Nudging him under the table with her foot, Eden rolled her eyes, unable to help smiling anyway. "I think we're good without the bow," she assured him, leaning forward against the palm of her hand. "How's it feel, being so close to done, Mr Bigshot Director?"

"Relief's a pretty good word for it," he said, not really even needing to pause to consider the answer. It'd been fun, but more work than even he imagined. That might've partly been due to the fact this wasn't exactly a Hollywood set. "I think after this I'm going into fucking retirement or something."

It had been a long time since Jack had attended a wrap party for a movie and, even while he still felt so shitty, it was still kind of nice. It was familiar and familiar was what he needed.

When someone else at the party applauded for Gideon, Jack couldn't help but clap as well, grinning along with everyone else. It wasn't a completely genuine smile, but he felt better than he head in some weeks and that was a good thing.

Karen spent half the time listening to Gideon and digging into a slice of pizza in a bit of a daze. Even though it was practically home made (with a special dose of high end explosives thanks to Iron Man himself), she'd still gone and co-starred in a freaking movie.

As soon as she spotted him with a free moment, Karen wandered over to Jack. "Hey, so, is this what they're usually like?" she asked, waving around at the little motely crew they'd all gotten to know over the past few months.

"Well, usually there are more drugs and more alcohol, but it's pretty close," Jack admits with a small grin, glancing around the crowd. He's trying not to think about how Lionel isn't there and his smile is stronger than it's been in awhile. "If anyone passes out or pukes, it'll be even closer."

Karen's eyebrows rose at Jack's description, though she couldn't say she was surprised, exactly. "Hollywood is so overrated. I like our tiny island movie making better."

With as long as she'd been involved in the movie -- longer, even, than she'd been with Gideon -- Penny found it hard to believe now that at least the filming part of it was all over. He had a whole lot more work to do, of course, but everything was all ready, and the rest of them were all done. As uncertain as she'd been about the whole acting thing, she found herself, under the excitement, just the slightest bit disappointed. She really had wound up enjoying all of this. At the same time, though, she was glad to be finished.

It took a little bit of effort, more than she cared to own up to, not to just stay by Gideon's side for the whole thing, but she managed. There'd be other people who wanted to talk to him, she was sure, and she would have him all to herself later. For now, there was food and good company to be had, both of which she was pretty pleased with.

He actually found her, after talking to a couple of people that was hanging out. Coming up behind her, he eased an arm around her waist.

"Hope you have enough time for a lowly director and writer," he said, smirking a little bit. "I know you're a big fucking star and all now, with this stuff almost done."

Smiling a little at Gideon's familiar presence behind her, Penny nodded, turning her head just enough to look at him over her shoulder. She knew he was teasing, of course; if anyone was the star in all of this, it was him. That wasn't going to stop her from playing along.

"For you? Always," she replied brightly, grin bordering on fond. "That is, if your adoring public's had enough of you. I'd imaginge you've gotta be in pretty high demand now."

"They might not, but I also get to choose who I want to fucking talk to," he pointed out, leaning in to press a kiss against her temple. "Having a good time?"
