215: Monday morning

Room 215 was quiet this morning as the sun snuck in past the curtains. Jack was barely awake, and more than a little bit worn out, but he opened his eyes and blinked sleepily, chuckling a little at the cards that were scattered over the bed. It's mid-afternoon in Rome, and Parker's sitting at Trevi fountain. And she couldn't call last night, because her father dragged her to a business dinner. So....

Jack was half asleep or he probably wouldn't have bothered to answer the phone, but he had some vague notion it could be Sam, so he disentangled himself from blankets and Cedric and stumbled across to answer the phone.

And kicked the desk. "Ow, dam-- Harkness," he said muzzily into the receiver while bending over to rub his foot. Damn it, that had hurt.

"Jack?" Parker stared at the phone in shock. "You answered the phone--?"

Right, because, everything she was going to say to the answering machine just flew right out of her head.

"What the hell?" he muttered, and stared at the phone in total confusion. He was almost positive that had been Parker. Who'd just hung up.

Weird. And his foot still hurt. It seemed to make perfect sense to call back.
