The more time they spent wandering around Rome, the more Jack was itching to hop back a few years and see what it looked like before it was ruins. Maybe even head out to some of the surrounding areas, Pompeii sounded like it might be useful.

"Coliseum?" Cedric asked. "Like an arena?"

"One of the most famous in this century." He gestured grandly. "The Amphitheatre Flavio, built to keep the masses happy and the Emperor popular. Home of battles to the death, men against men, men against animals, hell, one time they flooded it." Jack shook his head. "It would be interesting to see it before it looked like this."

"It was during the days before television," Sam said, feeling a little old, even as she turned to glare at the latest Roman guy to try and pick her up by pinching her butt. "People didn't have the patience for plays with plot, and they couldn't criticize the government with satire, so they had to produce what the lowest common denominator of people wanted to watch."
