I'd have to say my opinions are closer to the second statement, though I don't think the two viewpoints are actually that distant. The second seems more realistic to me. In the real world, violent acts are committed against people of color (esp. women of color) every day. If it is immoral for us even to defend ourselves, then we might as well just all go back to slaving for "The Massa". Like in the second statement, I don't advocate violence, but the truth of the matter is that self-defense or not, violence is a very powerful catalyst. One that is difficult to ignore. There are people out there who will commit violent acts (for and against my own agenda) whether I like it or not. My job as an activist is to make sure that those risks, consequences, and suffering are not in vain.

I agree with Malcolm. Why should white people or anyone be suprised when the oppressed race rises up against their oppressors. Wouldn't they do the exact same thing? But I know with our "legal system" that the first statement works better if we want to get changes that are permenant. It's just that that way of doing it is so much slower... albiet less bloody. I donno. I wish that everyone would make an effort to understand people who are not exactly like them, then we would realize that we have some things in common and some things that are different and just *accept* that everyone's culture is not the same and doesn't have to be.
