who the hell put a button on my router to turn the internet on and off? A) why would you want it off; 2) why is it a wee little click button and not some kind of "lift the glass and flip the big red switch" dealie and D) why would you want it off?

I'm not usually the one who does it, but I think sometimes when our internet isn't working, Simon turns the router off and then on again to reset it. And sometimes that even fixes the problem. Of course, I don't see why you couldn't just unplug the damn thing and plug it back in...

You might want it off because you're tired of your computer getting infected/reinfected with a variety of viruses, and instead want to establish a private network, or want to clean what you have, or want to avoid the random network connection services for performance reasons.
But generally, I only turn it off because Verizon has f-ed something up and I need to turn it off, let it 'quiet down', and then turn it back on.

Well, ours has an on/off and a reset. The on/off is in the front, and sometimes we need to reboot it to recognize the wireless router. It's a whole song and dance, one has to be turned on before the other, and then wait like 30 seconds then look for the flashing lights in order and BLA BLA BLA. The reset button I've only used on our wireless router, and that's for when our lovely little network doesn't feel like behaving. So I make it behave. It WILL do my biding. MWHA HAHAHAH!
