Nobody listens to me because clearly I'm retarded and that's how I've gotten to where I'm at in life.  Age does not equal competence, people.  Just accept that I'm a child prodigy and we can all move on.

Excuse me while I pull my head out of my ass.  I recommend some others do the same.

Ain't it the fucking truth!!!!! You so rule!

Older people, such as myself, fear younger people who are smarter and more proficient at the same tasks. For example. I am litterally scared to death that I can easily be replaced by a college grad with a couple of cisco certs, make 2/3 money I am making, and is 1/2 my age. The only reason I make what I make is because I have been at my company for 12 years. But sooner or later someone is going to wake up and say - Why are we paying him so much when we can someone younger, smarter, up on the latest technology, and cheaper.

Already saved up for two large Dell Boxes (one for me and one the mrs with William) to stake a claim on the corner of 72nd Street and Riverside Drive.

Life is a giggle.

So true, and, yes, so scary. But the flip side of it is, a lot of older workers are staying in positions where they have tenure (whether actual, concrete tenure, or just a nicety the company allows) way past retirement age, which prevents my generation from stepping into jobs. Kind of makes you miss the good ol' days of the Bolsheviks, eh? 10 years, everyone's fired, bring in the new blood! I'll be lucky if I can get a teaching job in another year. Professors are holding on to those spots until they're literally in the grave now. But really, we can't compete with that, at least not in the academic world. I have one professor who -LITERALLY- drools on himself for the entire 2 hours of class. Big strings of drool soaking the table in front of him the whole time. But his knowledge and experience are irreplaceable by a younger crowd. There definitely is something to say for the knowledge of age and experience; you just have to be open to new ideas, because the field always changes, day by day.
