It moved from the recent to the archived server. Here is the new link, and here is the text:

Lots of interesting and thought-provoking points. Fun to read.

But to clarify one point: Davy Jones, as Captain of the Flying Dutchman, is cursed to set foot on land only once every ten years ... unless he finds a love that is true to him. Hopefully that rule will be made more clear in the third film.

If the person Jones had been in love with had been true, and waited for him, and stayed in love with him for ten years, upon his return to land his curse would have been lifted. That's a big part of the reason why Jones is so bitter and cruel. He had a chance to lead a normal life ... but his lover was fickle.

Just thought I'd throw that out there, since most the arguing is over rules that are incorrect to the film.

Oh, I wish they hadn't cut out the explanation!

I've been pretty miserable since I came home last night after my viewing of the movie because I thought Will could only set foot on land once every ten years FOREVER. That rule changes everything about the ending!

After reading this and also thanks to Emily (who straightened this out on prettyannamoon's LJ for me) I feel much better now.

I tried to be "pure" for PotC3 and avoid big spoilers so I had no clue going in about the ending and this is where it got me ... miserable. I need to keep on being a spoiler Ho for my own good :D.

AMEN! I'm so glad I decided to get on LJ before going to bed, even though the movie got out at nearly 2:00. I walked out of the theatre feeling so let down, but now thanks to the spoiler hos, I can go to bed happy. :D

I just got home a bit ago from seeing the movie. I want to say, in true PotC tradition, I fell asleep. LOL, just dozed off once or twice, really. It wasn't my fault, a dog barking outside woke me up really early!

So if Elizabeth remained true to Will, he can come back on land and stay there? What would happen to the Flying Dutchman then? 'Cause they said it always need a captain.

I assume it would get a new captain.

Yeah, some other poor sap would turn out to have a "touch of destiny!"
