I think the sound that a paint roller makes as it's paint is gently ripped from it's nap, echoing through an empty house, is the loneliest sound I've ever heard.

I was playing guitar in the back of the store earlier today when two young girls came in. Upon noticing, I stopped playing, put down my guitar, and walked to the front of the store.
