In keeping with my previous post we also attended an FSU Theatre production of Picasso at the Lapin Agile at the Lab Theater earlier in the month. This is a much more intimate venue (the seating wraps around the stage). It was entertaining way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The comedian Steve Martin is the author. Sounds like a lot of fun! Is Martin a better playwright than he is a stand-up comedian/actor?

The play is like his acting work it can hit or miss depending on your sense of humor (mind you the comedy in this case is less crass humor and more high brow humor). There are also some slow bits in the play that could have been pepped up a bit.

I think some of the timing issues had more to do with the actors than the writing. Martin's wit can be very rapid fire and it shows in his writing. It's tough for young actors to get that comic repartee going.
