This fic is more about Steve being able to open up to a longtime friend, tell him "Hey, I'm in a relationship and I'm happy." Doubly more relieving for him when his friend accepts that because his friend is part of the military, a longtime conservative institution on the subject of same-sex relationships.
I'm definitely sorry if this came off as offensive in any way relating to sexuality or gender identity. I know from my own fights against discrimination and prejudice that it's not something that can just be taken lightly, which is why I certainly didn't mean it this way. This was an important junction for Steve, and that's all I wanted to show.
If you want to talk more about it definitely go ahead and message me and we can talk it over, or if you have any more

The conservatism of the military, the SEALs and Don't Ask, Don't Tell isn't very well conveyed when you make a point of making fun of the relationship and making it palatable for those who would only be able to see Steve with someone who is "like a girlfriend" or "a wife" as you wrote. It's sexist to call someone the wife, regardless of your intent, because you reduce his entire character to that stereotype of womanhood. It's homophobic, because the only way to make a same sex couple palatable is by making sure we know who the "man" and who the "woman" is, basically invalidating the homosexuality of the relationship.

The only reason the word "wife" is even used in this story is because of Chin and Kono's line in the beginning. It's a play on everyone believing they're married. Like Lori when she joins Five-0. I do not say that Danny is a woman, and neither does anyone else in the story. Bram and Murray do not understand that Danny is a man in the beginning because of the joke. They get it after. Thus the use of quotation around the word when they talk. Steve uses the word because he's trying to use levity in his conversation with Murray, and Murray let's him know that he is one hundred percent okay with Steve being in a relationship with another man. It is very clearly not making fun of a relationship. I apologize if it has come off as otherwise. There are quotes used around certain words to convey a specific tone by the characters for this very effect.

And Steve's just a great guy at any rate :)

I actually found the banter between the military team members to be quite realistic. Guys being guys and all that. When they joke and tease each other, they don't worry about 'political correctness' (and I should know.) In fact, in my 12 years in the Navy, I had constantly heard much worse.
These particular SeALS knew each other and it was obvious that their joking was all in fun.
I liked how Steve managed to confide in Murray and that Murray was cool.
Nice work!

Didn't see any stereotypical woman or gay man.
