Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

I watched the new Harry Potter movie tonight. It was not what I expected at all. (Except that Tom Felton is hot and so is Alan Rickman.) I can't decide how I feel about Narcissa. Daniel Radcliffe is really getting too old to play Harry - in some scenes he looks nearly 30! DX

That's Steve Kloves for you. Once an asshole, always an asshole.

If you don't feel like reading the book, here's a good summary:

Thanks, but I'd rather read the book over because I think there are details I need to complain about that are unlikely to be in a summary. For whatever reason, I thought Narcissa was blond. And I don't remember the book mentioning Regulus by name - I thought that was in the 7th book. And I thought one of the wizards was supposed to be Tonks and I remember her hair changing colors. (I just looked, and yes... that was supposed to be Tonks.) I suppose it should have been obvious with the way she was "mooning" over Remus.

The book kind of was a lot of nothing-- it was the calm before the storm, the only semi-normal year Harry has after his third year-- but they cut so much stuff out of it that it felt more incomprehensible and pointless. Like the Pensieve lessons: there were lots of them in the book, and Dumbledore actually had some idea of what was going on, but there were only two in the movie, with clueless!Dumbledore.

Still I remembered the book being darker and without all the romantic comedy nonsense. (And I like romantic comedies.) I really will have to re-read it.

I didn't like Narcissa's hair. She was pretty, but her hair looked silly. Draco cuts a great figure in his impeccable suits, though. :3 I thought the movie was a load of fluff for the first hour and then OHMYGOD WE HAVE TO CRAM IN PLOT NOW, GAIS!

Narcissa looked like a skunk. Her hair wasn't white-blond, it was WHITE AND BLACK!!?!! Tom Felton is gorgeous. XD

But you have to ask yourself where the fluff came from because I don't remember it in the book.... Am I crazy?

Yup. I think they were trying to balance the darker mood of the important stuff...?

I've heard so many "Meh... It was cute but not what I was hoping for" reviews now that I'm considering blowing off the movie theater experience for this one and just taking a peak at the DVD from Red Box in a few months. Would you recommend this extraordinarily less expensive option, or do you really think it calls for the movie theater experience?

I'm glad I saw it in the theater, because Tom Felton is hot I would've been sad to not had that excitement. It wasn't a bad movie, just not what I expected. But the choice is yours.
