I haven't done a thing for Black History Month this year, so here, a wonderful image from Girodet (Anne-Louis Girodet de Roucy-Trioson, whom mousme was kind enough to identify as male for me before I tracked him down on English-language sites, doh!).

Ce portrait est très haut, et le spectateur a son pantalon à la hauteur des yeux... difficile de ne pas remarquer ce qui donne corps aux légendes... (Sourire.) Mais aussi, la peau et les tissus soyeux noués à sa taille ont fait l'objet d'une grande minutie. Il me rappelle un ami, Tommy, trinidadien, qui rayonnait de ce mélange de dignité, de confort et de... sex-appeal!

The portrait is very high and the observer has their eyes at the level of his pants....it's difficult not to notice what gives substance to the legends....(smile!). But also, the skin and the form-hugging silky fabric were paid a lot of attention. It makes me remember a friend from Trinidad, Tommy, who radiated this mix of dignity, comfort and sex-appeal!
