Despite the fact that I've read (and loved) the book, I still didn't quite follow. However, great idea! (And the picture is fantastic.)

As a love of all things rabbity and wildlife related the book is now an obsession of mine. As far as the entry goes, it's just the usual LJ mumbo jumbo, only in Lapine. I tried to remember as much as I could but I needed a dictionary, it's very exciting that someone actually sat down and leafed through the book picking words and translating them for everyone to use (although the dictionary missed some words or used them incorrectly).

Thanks, about that picture! I just sketched the rabbit on the front cover of my book with a charcoal and gave him a little character. I considered inking in his fur but I recalled rabbits see only in black and white so I felt it was more effective left as is.

I like the drawing a whole lot.
I read Watership Down a few years ago, and sadly I did not find it terribly life-changing. It was enjoyable, and I may well read it again some day.

Thanks! The drawing is not 100% original as I used the shape of the rabbits eye and ears from the front cover of the book, I just wanted to make him a little more Tibbs-like

I was mumbo jumboing in the great language of the rabbits! (Basically I said I woke up to see men in a field digging in the earth, I worried about rabbits and warrens and such, then I had something to eat because I am fat doe. My brother and father played on the Xbox360 and I worked. It's boring really, if anyone actually went to lengths to translate it I would laugh at their disappointment.

You drew that bunny? I love that bunny drawing. Unfortunately, when I read Watership Down Nixon was President (it's unortunate that he was President at all, really) so I don't remember the language. Are you sure that isn't Hebrew or Arabic? El-ahrairah sounds awfully Semitic...

Actually as I was reading it, I thought "this sounds awful familiar" but it was mainly little words when strung together that make it sound like a familiar language. El-ahrairah, I do believe, actually exists outside Watership Down... I haven't yet researched the background to the book (though I know it started out as a story the author told his kids in a long car journey) as I've just been flying through it with little time to come up for air. El-ahrairah is worshipped by the rabbits as he was blessed for his tricks and cunning by Frith, who is creator of earth and what not. I have heard of Frith before, and probably El-ahrairah (pronounced with the same stresses as 'never say die') because of that.
