So you have your quals after first year at UCSD? What are they like- written or oral, general math background or specialized topics?

Mine's a specialized oral exam; I'm taking it in July. I feel your agony.

Written, 3 hours, and I have to take 3! (There are distribution requirements, but some choice.) I'm taking 2 this spring.
