Been there, done that! I guess that's why we got oranges one year!
BTW I was driving all over town on Thursday looking for a Chocolate Advent Calender. Found the last one... I now have a very happy 8YO! 14YO and 16YO told me to skip them, but their lists are ready.
I don't know if you have an Aldi near you (German grocery story chain spreading into the US), but we always find the chocolate Adventskalendar there. It's the first thing the kids rush to after school.
Yes, there's a very nice new Aldi very near me. My friend is always trying to get me to shop there. Any special items you like?
I'm a bad mom. I let them open their calender first thing in the morning. BTW the 14YO and 16YO specifically said to not get them one this year. Sad.
BTW we do the pickle. Winner gets a present... game for the whole family. Older kids always let the little guy win... which is nice. Funny, it usually takes a long time to find it. I guess shiny pickles hide well in trees!
Ahh-- no we don't do St. Nick's day and I was actually pretty aggravated this week. My son's school told him all about it and how everyone should be celebrating it. I'm like thanks a freaking lot! I'm still not going to do it but he's like well why is he coming to the other kids' houses? Argh. Anyway, Trader Joe's always has a ton of advent calendars. :-)
Wow, I would be upset, too! I thought that wasn't PC these days. The elementary schools can only have Holiday parties w/ snowman, etc. themes.
I think St. Nick's Day is the only tradition my mom passed down. I actually started doing The Pickle... the winner gets a prize/present, a game for the whole family.
BTW I tried World Market first and they sent me to Butera... Trader Joe's is on the other side of town but was going to be my next stop.
