So…normal is the new curse?

I don’t read the Buffy comics, though I do read reviews, recaps, discussions and any panels I can find. I’ve heard about and/or seen most of the Spuffy panels from #8.

Cut due to spoilers for #9-#10 and looooong thinky thoughts… )

Forget Joss the Joy-killer. Read fan-fic.

I completely agree with you. To see him hanging around Buffy hoping for a crumb well it demeans all he has accomplished for himself. In my opinion she is doing to him what Angel did to her. Angel always dangled that carrot that eventually they could be together and she is in her own way, by leaning on him all the time, dangling the same carrot to Spike. It wasn't right for Angel to do it to her, it left her the emotionally stunted woman we have now and it isn't right to do it to Spike. I love Spike, but I'm not blind to his past. That said he has come so far and he deserves to have someone love him the way he loves others. He has earned it and it would be wonderful if the two of them got it right at the same time and managed to be together in anything more than him pining away for her silently at her side. But if the writers aren't going to do that they need to let him move on. That doesn't mean he stops loving her, just that he is able to have that love as a memory and move on to someone in the present. Someone who can appreciate all ( ... )

Yep. "Love's Bitch" is endearing but "Love's Whipping Boy" is just downright frustrating. We are in agreement, my friend! :-)

I don't necessarily need Buffy and Spike to work out permanently, but I'd really like to be given just a little bit of them being an actual couple before they're ripped apart by the writers.

Or even just *ONCE* her telling him she actually, honestly loves him. I wouldn't need it to work out if they just gave me that much.

I am soooo with you on that. It seems like such a small thing to ask, doesn't it? You'd think they could give us that much. ::sigh::

And this is why I don't read the comics. I only read other people's reviews of them, LOL!

But I don't think any of these guys really get Spike, and it's a minor miracle that his character hasn't been ruined yet the way Angel and even Buffy have. But I agree, there is no endgame here. They'll just keep stringing readers along for the duration, which is why I don't bother with them.

Same here! Heh.

You are so right. I suppose we should be grateful for that much at least. I'd rather not have him in the comics at all than risk having them ruin him, too. And they don't even seem to understand how much they've crucified Angel and Buffy.

I'm sorry, though, that we won't get to see what Jane Espenson would have done with Spike when she writes her Buffy arc. Of all the writers, I think she comes closest to getting him and Spuffy.

But I agree, there is no endgame here. They'll just keep stringing readers along for the duration, which is why I don't bother with them.

And I even kind of understand that, from a business perspective at least. But why can't they give him (and us) more than just a few crumbs? Just for a little while! Is that really so much to ask? Aaargh.

I would love to see Spike get some sincere romantic love from someone worthy. Not another Harmony, please, as horribly hilarious as their relationship was. If the worthy someone were Buffy, that would be great, but I'm not holding my breath. Spike could hold his breath, but I'd rather he didn't.

Fortunately, fanfic has provided many examples of a Spike that has moved on in a way that is respectful of his past with Buffy and his feelings for her. I mean, it's possible for Spike to move on without bashing Buffy or trashing Spuffy. Unfortunately, I don't think the present writers will be able to pull that off, and we'll get a lonely knight off questing instead. That idea has its appeal, but Spike's already been alone for too long!

Ooooh, yes! Definitely no Harmony type. It was funny at that time, but he's moved waaaay beyond that.

Spike could hold his breath, but I'd rather he didn't.

Hee!

That idea has its appeal, but Spike's already been alone for too long!If you take what Allie says at face value, they may keep it respectful. I'm hoping for that much, at least. But, yeah, I think they'll give us the lonely knight. They don't care enough about Spike as a character in his own right to do anything else. I think he's really more of a prop for Buffy's story than anything else. Too bad. There's so much potential ( ... )
