Ya know what? You have every right to tell someone who comes to you with those conditions that the class is not for them. It's decidedly rude for anyone to take up space in a limited class (nevermind the part about killing the experience for the person they're paired with). You would have been well within your rights as an instructor to inform her of this, and offer her the option of *observing* (rather than participating). Have a FABOO time!! I can hardly wait til you come to Portland and do this one. (BTW, Robin Netherton will be down here in Eugene on October 20--you might find her lectures about this style of dress interesting). I've been to her workshop on fitting this gown, and I'm dying to see how you've figured it out--process is such a fascinating thing!!
I did all those things- the amazing part was that she kept saying that she still wanted to take the class. Apparently she finally talked to her doctor, who seemed to have more of a clue than she. Anyway, the class went well, and though we didn't finish everyone, they all got to try the technique and seemed to go away happy. I'm hoping to do this again soon, though with a smaller group. Robin's lectures are great, and what got me started. I'm hoping to come to her lectures in Oct.
Laurellen's speaking the next day on a very interesting topic, too....massive costume geeking, all weekend...*come...come to the Summits...you know you want to...** *grin* And it's not an SCA event--it's through a new company that focuses on bringing costume and textile scholars together for lectures on construction, history, and philosophy of costume and dress of the medieval and renaissance periods... :)

Soon- I learned a few things at his one, and have to get through Lionhearts (this weekend, must repair wind-crown damage to tent), and getting my wisdom teeth out (next monday- eek!), and then I'll be able to think about scheduling another weekend. I think that a class limit of 4, with an extra person to act as demo-body (who doesn't get to learn the draping part hands-on), would be better than the 6 I had this time. I also think that having non-open registration would be good. I did this one through the Madrone sewing guild so that I wouldn't have to be the one to turn people away when it was full, but I think I can confidently say that 4 is all I can have in a class now. It was a little disappointing to have a couple of people who will probably never finish their dresses taking up space in class. So anyway, I'm thinking that some time in august might be good.
