The consoles were named with a commonality until after the 64. They were Nintendo, then Super Nintendo, then the 64 was officially SNU which was Super Nintendo Ultra 64, but the name didn't work well in America like it did in Japan so they changed marketing strategies to just Nintendo 64 or the NU symbol.
