The thing about the both of them was that they liked simple. The simple pleasure of skin against skin on an already warm night, the windows of a junk-yard car fogging up. The rushed feeling behind a kiss, teeth gnashed together in quiet desperation, followed by inevitable laughter as you realize you're acting like a hormone-driven teenager. It brought Pete back, a familiar nostalgia that took away the sting of adulthood. They fell together easily, Mikey's eyes dark behind the frame of his glasses.
They weren't together, except when they were. And when they were, Pete was consumed. Charmed by Mikey's laugh, the soft-spoken boy who in another time he might never have noticed. He was glad that he had. They were having fun, and for once, that was the problem.
