I'll be honest-- for the longest time I didn't really care for John post-Beatles. Then I watched the special The US VS John Lennon and it made me really appreciate what he tried to do.

Perhaps he and Yoko weren't the most down to Earth, but it appears [to me at least] that they were trying to do something good.

I can respect that.

Please dont get me wrong I love John Lennon and his music very much and think he did do some good with his preaching of Peace but I think he had way too many Acid trips and fried his brain and then YOKO came along ( ... )

The whole Yoko-getting-him-into-heroin thing sort of pisses me off, because heroin is like WICKED evil, but I suppose if it hadn't been her it would've been someone else and he'd already done just about every other drug under the sun, so whatever. I'm just not sure what to think about Yoko, but I wouldn't go so far as to say she "poisoned John's mind" or anything like that. ...but ever notice how some people get more boring once they're in a relationship? I think it's kind of like that, post-Beatles John bores me. XD

Post-Beatles John bores me.

THIS. I'd never been able to quite put my finger on the exact reason I'm not so into John after the Beatles - but that's exactly it, hehe.

I mean, not to say I don't think a few of his songs from the 70s are very good, because I do love some of them. But as compared to the stuff he wrote (with and 'with' Paul in the 60s), there's no contest for me. I love almost every single one of those. (And there's the whole thing where I think that both he and Paul, overall, wrote better songs when they were together...but that's kind of a different topic!)

I mean, maybe he got lame because of Yoko, or maybe he was just bound to go in directions that, while not BAD necessarily, are just not as interesting to me as his work with the Beatles. Although I do absolutely love some of his solo stuff.

And don't get me started on Paul post-Beatles, it'll probably get me run out of town on a rail. LOL

Heh, from your comment, I think we may have similar opinions on post-Beatles Paul...we may be sharing that rail if that ever comes up as a topic thread! XD

I'm a huge Lennon fan, Beatles and more specifically Post-Beatles, but I think I am the only person in the free world who does not like the song Imagine.

I liked his whole idea of peace and love and whatever. But just like Communism, it is IMPOSSIBLE. Sad to say, but both are fabulous in theory but when put into practice...I mean look at Cuba, and we could not just leave fighting for freedom for peace. It would have to be either peace or freedom at the start and then we wouldn't have either.

What I'm saying is: poor John, he really thought he could do it, didn't he? Post-Beatles John makes me feel sorry for him.

Agreed. Idealistic!John-and-Yoko actually get on my nerves, for that exact reason, that that type of approach to peace is impossible and unworkable. Not to say that all idealism should be thrown out, because then nobody would believe in anything, and we'd all sit around saying, Why should I even try, fuck it all.

But Johan and Yoko were kind of doing the same thing, if you think about it - I mean, sitting in bed for a week or whatever to promote peace? Come on...what is that really going to accomplish, even if you are John Lennon. It'd be like some random US (or really, any Western country) celebrity going on a hunger strike for peace in the Middle East - yeah, because the extremists are really going to give a rat's arse if some poor famous person doesn't eat for a week.

It's just impractical!

Exactly, it just is not possible. As much as we may dream and hope and "imagine" it just would not be possible. Someone said [on I forget what site, about Give Peace A Chance"] that it was people who didn't think it possible that were preventing peace from spreading. No, man! Leave the complete-idealism to Don Quijote; it's not going to happen. A little is alright, sure, but--like you said--a celebrity going on a hunger strike for peace in the Middle East does nothing for the Middle East!

This is precisely what I feel.
