To complement the overrated thread: makers you think are underrated/overlooked in favor of the overrated ones?

which fandoms do you guys find have the best/worst average quality of icons?

i find that a lot of overhyped icons have been made for legend of the seeker, sherlock, and dr who, but there are so many that it's hard not to find some actually really great icons in there too.

generally i find castle and criminal minds icons to be butt ugly.

i wish lesser known shows would get some icon community love, like grimm, raising hope, or white collar. there are actually a lot of good icons, made by some really unknown makers, and i think they all deserve some more attention.

I agree, I would kill to have someone make good quality Criminal Minds icons, I love that show so much!

Oh, I would love to see those, maybe you could post some of them to iconpraise?, Pretty please, I would love to see them!

haha i'd be outing myself pretty fast then! but yeah, i'm actually really interested in this thread so i can go icon-hunting for missed gems in a bunch of different fandoms. i have a good list put together for grimm already, maybe i'll get that up soon.

Do any of you get bothered when you feel like you know too much or more than you wanted to know about another iconmaker? Like, sometimes it's great to see that someone who can make really great icons is also really funny and eloquent, but sometimes I wish people weren't so OTT friendly, because I feel like I'm doing something wrong by not really wanting to / not being able to fit in with all the chipperness.

Ugh, YES!

I wish icon making could actually be about making icons and not about who is the most social, funniest, most supportive, who leave the best/longest comments etc.

Lately it's become too much about being BFF's, chatting on AIM/MSM, and being social on a personal level :/

Ugh, yes. This x100. That's one of the problems I have with iconsecrets tbh... it's like everyone's in on the joke and I'm sitting there lost. And confused. Because I thought it was supposed to be about the icons themselves... I love the comm, don't get me wrong. But sometimes... yeah :/

omg :( i always feel really bad commenting because i feel like other people are judging me for not having enough to say. there are only so many ways i know to say "pretty" or "amazing" or "great" and after that i'm just pulling things out of my butt to pad out my comment. obviously it's great to receive a really long, well thought out comment about your icons, but usually it's just a long long long long comment filled with squee and i am not here for that.

Do you judge communities based on who mods them? In other words, do you dislike/not participate/not join/watch communities if they are modded by someone in particular? If yes, which communities and what are the reasons?

Can't think of any atm... what about you, anon?

i'm usually really interested in the concepts of kawaii_chicken's communities, but i participated once or twice and didn't end up liking it. i don't feel like i'm on the same skill or style wavelength as them. plus she's so flaily and energetic that i actually feel tired reading her posts, lol.

I tend to avoid communities modded by sarisafari. Not for any personal reasons, I've no opinion good or bad on her.... she's just always late. I don't think big20in20 was every really 20in20... more like 20in40 or however long it takes her to close a round.

To complement the last thread:

Who is your favorite mod (for any community, not just challenges). How do you think they do a good job with their community?

Have you ever joined a community just because you liked the mod?

Someone mentioned it (maybe?), but I like nouettes @ disneydolce. She seems really organized and enthusiastic about the challenges and is always super polite to the makers who participate -- as well as the voters.

My favorite mod has to be absolutelybatty (icons_concrit). I think she's super professional yet really approachable and helpful. She's truly dedicated to the communities she mods.

Yes, joined throneland and big20in20 because of sarisafari. No regrets, so far.

absolutebatty leaves really great comments all the time. i think i spent a few days dissecting her comments once just so i could figure out how to write good comments as well. /creepy
