happy love songs

Jun 11, 2004 12:35

I am seeking suggestions for happy love songs. Not sappy, not ironic. All types of music are fine--swing, rock, classical, alternative, "oldies", rockabilly, etc.

It's actually harder than I thought it would be to think of some! I am fond of Fats Waller "I'm Crazy 'bout My Baby" and want more in that vein! Please share any thoughts you have. :)

Drat. I narrowed it down to far to just happy, and about half of those songs aren't love songs. Let me revise:

Good Day Sunshine, In My Life, and Something by the Beatles
I Got a Woman - Ray Charles
Crazy on You - Heart
Morning Train - Sheena Easton (i think)
Walking on Sunshine - Katrina and the Waves

Yeah, I was willing to grant that "she bop" was about self-love, but was goign to question some of the original list. I wish TMBG had a love song--that would be fun!

TMBG must have a non-ironic love song or two. Let me think on this.

I found a website with lyrics to all the TMBG songs, and didn't really find any. Of course, I only clicked on song titles that sounded likely, and I don't know a lot of their songs, so I could have missed one.

Here's one: "New York City" from Factory Showroom.

Depending on your interpretation, "Another First Kiss" (which is on Mink Car) might also qualify.

E. just reminded me - Gershwin!!!

And Jonathan Richman, again. Ignore the rest of what I said before, and go for these two. Or three, rather, as Gershwin counts as two.
