Saw Ides of March the other day. It was actually really beautiful half the time. The other half, the shots had a weird kind of tension in them, but I was crushing on Gosling enough to be charitable and consider the tension intentional. Oh, and have you seen all of Miyazaki's films? Pretty much everyone of those is lush, despite being animation.

I just mean that it's typically harder for animation to be lush than photography: in camera photography, you just find a compelling image already existing in nature, etc, but in animation, you gotta make it from scratch.

Don't get me wrong, I love anime! The poisonous forest in Nausicaa is one of the most powerful set of images I can think of in any film ever.

Yeah, it's a ridiculous labor. I originally wanted to be an animator until I realized that I could never survive the level of monotony required.
