I've never seen the movie as I've heard that it is tragic and sometimes just not in the mood for it

This story though just so achingly tragic and the pen with the dragon on it , very vivid in my mind from
the description.

Love Merlin in his dedication to Arthur and so hopeful in the end to let go and move on

Arthur just always breaks my heart and he is my fave, so in this context. He is still
strong and brave and Arthur.

lovely story going in memories

Thank you so much for reading this even though you've never seen the film! It is definitely one you have to be in the mood for, but it's so unbelievably worth it. You leave it feeling emotionally drained, but also emotionally cleansed; it's really the best sort of catharsis I've found.

And I meant to include a picture of Arthur's dragon fountain pen, as it is actually based on a real Mont Blanc pen -- this one, actually. It distracted me so much while I was writing this, seriously. So many hours lost to ogling the pens on the Mont Blanc website that are all worth far more than I could ever dream of spending on a pen. Ugh.

Glad to hear the characterization worked for you, and thank you again!

Thank you! Exactly the feeling I was aiming for, so it's wonderful to hear I pulled that off.

I love how you managed to fit the Arthurian Legend into the story so perfectly and I love how Arthur and Merlin are still so essentially them in this context. I love the fact that this story is tragic and makes my heart hurt in all the right ways. I love that you've managed to make me cry.

This was, without a doubt, beautifully, heart-shatteringly lovely. I haven't seen this movie (although this fic is really making me want to) but if it was heartbreaking you were going for, you definitely achieved it. ♥

Re: the Arthurian Legends: You have no idea how happy I am to hear that those elements meshed in as nicely as I wanted them to. That storyline was the hardest to write, simply because I knew where I wanted it to end, but not how it wanted to get there, and figuring it out was so frustrating. Glad to hear it paid off.

Oh, definitely, definitely see the film. I gushed about it enough in the A/N, I think, but it really is amazing. Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz give absolutely stunning performances in it, and watching it is an exhausting experience, but also one that leaves you feeling oddly cleansed. It really is one of the best forms of catharsis I've found.

Thank you so much!

Would it be awful of me to say I'm not all that sorry? Because I am, but I'm not, as crying means I pulled off what I wanted to, and just. How about I give you tissues and some consoling hugs and we leave it at that?

Thank you so much!

(And no, it's not. I've heard that the comment box in my layout sometimes does funky things to people as they're typing out responses, like making their text appear to be all caps. Sorry if it's acting up for you, but thanks for commenting despite that frustration!)

Dear Lord God, that was exquisite. Brilliantly written, perfectly interwoven and it made me cry (which isn't really an easy feat, I swear). I wasn't sure whether to read it at first, but I'm so glad I did. Happy endings are all well and good, but this had a feeling of catharsis to it that.. well. I'm not sure I'll reread it for a while, but...

The characters were still themselves, and wonderfully realised. All the emotions felt real.

And now I am running out of words to use, so I'll settle for simply wonderful. Thank you.

You are making me blush so much, I swear. Pretty much everything in your comment -- especially the characterization and plot-weaving points -- is exactly what I needed to hear about this fic, as it's what I stressed about the most writing it.

but this had a feeling of catharsis to it

If you thought that about this fic, go watch the movie it's based on if you haven't already. I don't think what I've written can properly compare to how empty, drained, and oddly cleansed that film leaves you feeling every time you see it. Everything about it is wonderful, and if you're looking for something that will give you ultimate catharsis, I'd be hard-pressed to find anything better.

Thank you so much for the feedback! Comments like this one, and knowing that I did pull off everything I wanted to -- they're making the past few months and all the difficulties that came with writing this monster worth it.
