Or, the one that's based on an idea I've had since week three in ST fandom, way back in May, and that only now decided it was ready to come out. We'll see how this goes.

That was perfect! <3 I love amnesia!fics, and this one kept me on edge the whole time, even before Spock's arrival. And then, their discussions, Jim's memory coming back little bit by little bit, his feelings too, even though they weren't actually together before the accident. Two years is really long, though. :-( *hugs them both*

Two years is a very long time, I agree. Poor boys.

Thank you so much! I'm thrilled to hear you enjoyed it, even if it wasn't in keeping with the more traditional style of amnesia!fics.

That's actually a good thing, your take was very original.

Jim doesn't change the integral parts of who he is, but just rediscovers them again as time passes.

That right there is one of the main things I wanted to explore and establish with this story. So much of amnesia!fic operates on the assumption that loss of memory automatically equals a change in personality, and that never sat well with me. Some minor changes, yes, I could reasonably expect with the loss of your memories, but not the completely new person that's often presented in amnesia!fic as the result of someone's memory loss. We are more than our experiences, and while they certainly are huge factors influencing who we are and how we behave, there has to be some sort of underlying personality trait that defines how we would even acquire those experiences and react to them in the first place. At least in my view.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and leave feedback! I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed it, even if this isn't usually your type of story. ♥

I'm sorry I made you cry! That wasn't my intent with this piece, but if that's how it worked for you, well. It's great to hear that my writing is able to evoke reactions beyond what I intended, if that's not too rude to say.

Thank you so much! And here, have a tissue.

This is gorgeously written and your worldbuilding was so good that I almost didn't want a happy ending. Beautiful.

I actually plotted out a few different endings where Jim didn't recover his memories and stayed on the planet featured here, or moved back to Earth and tried to start over and reconcile who he had to live as with who he was before in an environment that knew only the latter, or one of several other options. But (and maybe this is because I am, at heart, the biggest of sops) nothing seemed to fit as well as the happy ending, so that's what they got. I will miss this town, though, and it's nice to hear I'm not the only one.

Thank you so much for reading!
