Reducing our carbon footprint

A few months ago, the Cunning Plans Dept worked out our carbon footprint using some thingummy on the web, and to be blunt, we suck. The web thingy did break it down into areas and while the house and general living wasn't too bad, our air travel and two cars were seriously in the "not good" category. Wow, you have put me to shame. Though I totally understand the inconvenience of no public transport. I am lucky enough to live in a place which provides me a bus stop at the front taking me directly to work. In Sydney it's possible, in Wollongong, not so much.

It's a shame CPD doesn't have access to a 'company car' when at work, I take a work car if I need to drive somewhere, but I understand how 'not an option; that currently is. Perhaps it's something to put to council and local members (ok not local Councilors coz you guys don't have any right now - but State and Fed level might be worth it), give them the same info as you've put here and show them that their lack of infrastructure and provision of public transport stops you from achieving your sustainability goals - include the transport minister etc... perhaps it's something more people should communicate with their local members about.

We're intending to get a bit more involved with the community. We gave feedback to our Federal MP when he last sent out a survey on what residents felt were local priorities.

There is Sustainable Illawarra, which is a joint initiative between Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama councils and I've found they've got some good resources and programs:
