I suppose as Christians we truly only love when we love others with the love the Lord puts in our hearts-love is painful-peace Jonny

Well I think the reason why God saves us is that we have the capacity of love. Love is taught to us but not "installed" in us. Jesus works with something that already exists, albeit hidden and tainted.

I was thinking of this verse in Romans 5 when I wrote the above to you "Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us." Romans 5:5. I also remember this verse in First John "We love Him because He first loved us" 1 JN 4:19.

I do agree men can love others apart from being filled with the love of God. I also agree that men who seek to love apart from the work of God express love in imperfect ways-their love is self centered not God centered. I suppose we could say there is "flesh love" and there is "spiritual love" love that we are filled with when we are regenerated-become new creations in Christ Jesus. peace

"In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins." 1 John 4:9,10.

Yeah I forgot these verses, you are right about them. But I think it's a love that unbelievers too can recognize as love. It is more intense and more pure, it is divine, but it is not unrecognizable.
