I think the Holy Spirit and the fear of God in us christians make sure that for the very most of the time we achieve the minimum of what God wants to see in us. We are saved. What possible basis could there be for the assertion that God has any "minimum" that He wants us to "achieve" -- or that this would have anything to do with being "saved?" Such a statement seems to completely contradict the gospel.

Well we need to produce fruit. If we produce fruit we know that we are in the vine. But if we produce no fruit then there's something wrong with us that needs to change. I think God makes sure that all believers produce at least some fruit. But we could definetly produce more fruit, there is a lot of room for more grapes on the branches we are.

OK, but that doesn't sound anything like God wanting us to "achieve" any kind of "minimum." It just sounds like you're saying that God produces at least some fruit in all believers. I doubt very much that there is some minimum level of "performance" to which God or we need to attach any significance whatsoever -- unless we are looking for some kind of assurance in something other than that in which scripture directs to find such assurance.
