Ah little barbie worlds. I pretty much did the same thing with mine. It was always so much fun seeing what me and my cousin could come up with next. :) I never considered something like that in relation to writing but now that you've mentioned it, or pointed me that way, it make sense. :) ♥
I never liked Barbies. Instead I had hundreds of little plastic animals and I humanized all of them. They all had names, voices, personalities, families, hierarchies in their society.
Funny how we both took creative-playing and turned out to be writers. You're so very brilliant. =)
Children at a certain age relate better to animals. Some projective psychological tests (like the Thematic Apperception Test) use animal drawing instead of human so that the children can project their feelings/thoughts better.
