[Mewtwo takes to the journals for his first real post to the network - he spends more time thinking over what needs to be said than actually writing. Placing words on a page for everyone to see is different than communicating directly to someone, and isn't something that Mewtwo quite understands the way most others seem to. [Depressed or not, draft or not, mild-hangover-effects-still-bugging-him or not, this was written by a non-human sapient. It had to be.

So it instantly gets Robert's attention. Even if the writing is strange - spastic, all over the place, with scattered markings through it - it's legible enough that he can understand it.]

Well. I am a homo sapiens myself - but I presume, from you asking this question, that you are not? [As an astrobiologist, this intrigues him muchly.]

... And what is a "Pokemon"?

[This is That One Question that Mewtwo really hates answering.]

It is an ability that manifested recently. I was unaware of it beforehand.

[Robert brings a hand to his chin thoughtfully. He can't even fathom how this is possible - but it's fascinating, regardless.]

I see that your world is indeed as paranormal as I had supposed.

Do you have vocal chords or any similar structures for transmitting sound, or can you only communicate like this, then?

And... may I get you anything? Assuming there is anything I can get you. [What does a giant not-feline eat, anyway?]

[Mewtwo blinks for a moment, then answers the question demonstratively - he opens his mouth and emits a scratchy, breathy sound, running through the spectrum of sighs and hisses and very soft hums he is capable of producing.

If he does have vocal cords, they are nowhere near as useful as a human's.

And he pauses for another moment before answering the second question.]

Fruit.

[That's a fairly informative answer indeed. Robert listens with an intrigued expression as Mewtwo runs the gamut of the various noises he can make.] Ah, so you are relatively limited in that regard. But, no matter; with such a unique method of communication, it's likely not an issue.

[At the second question, Robert goes to fetch some of the fresh fruits he has - mostly pre-Terran varieties; apples, bananas, oranges, perhaps a few smaller fruits...] Would any of these be satisfactory, Mewtwo? Although I would not have taken your species for frugivores - you remind me very much of felines on Terra.

[Quiet-natured Pokemon like dry foods and abhor sweet ones. The banana it will be, then - Mewtwo slinks over to pick it up and sniff experimentally at it.

Sort of like a Nanab Berry...]

Felines?

[One of those not-human not-Pokemon, he presumes. Do explain.

everything eats fruit]

[As Robert watches Mewtwo's reaction to the banana, he starts to explain.] Felines are the name for species belonging to the family Felidae - typically called cats. They are mammals, generally strict carnivores - they are the strictest carnivores overall in the order Carnivora, in fact - and tend to be lithe, flexible creatures.

You look quite similar to them, with the exception of having a bipedal stance and differently-aligned limbs. [Robert's gaze flicks over Mewtwo's body.] That chest-plate like structure on your sternum is fascinating as well... unlike anything I have ever seen on any Terran creatures.

[Structure on my...oh. That bone...plate...thing. Hell if I know what that is, man.]

I may be able to eat meat. I've never tried.

[He glances down at said mystery structure for a moment before looking back up to take an experimental bite of the (unopened) banana -

- bitter]

[Now that it's obvious Mewtwo has never seen a banana before...] ... Ah. You happen to be consuming the fruit's rind. That can be rather unpleasant.

[Robert gently takes the banana back and peels away the rest of the yellow casing before handing the soft white pulp-like fruit back to Mewtwo.] This is the part that is intended to be edible. Though in some banana varieties, the rind is eaten as well, but generally those are boiled or cooked instead of eaten raw like this one.

However, this must mean that the flora of your planet is quite different - bananas are a staple crop in pre-Terran history, and even with the massive eradication of much of Terra's farmland, bananas are still cultivated there in certain hydroponic farms. [Robert's mostly rambling to himself at this point.]

[...oh. Oh, so that's how that works. Not that much like Nanab after all. Anyways, it's pretty good. Mewtwo sits back on his heels to eat.

And after taking a bite, he looks up and stares at the rambling scientist for a few seconds, blinks, and returns to the surprisingly delicious fruit with a quietly amused huff when he realizes that the man is wording again. Something about bananas being common in his world and how his own world must have different plants. Or something.]

[Robert pauses mid-spiel about bananas as he notices Mewtwo's reaction.] ... Ah, but enough about Terra... Seeing as your world is so much different, what else is there that you would care to inform me about? [Not recognizing basic species from Terra is pretty indicative that the world is seriously different.]

[head...tilt.]

What kind of things do you want to know?

[It's your definition of 'normal' that's being run up against, here.]

Literally anything that you could tell me would be informative. For example, are powers like the telepathy you have common to Pokemon? And how do they manifest?

Are there any kinds of categorization for species of Pokemon? And are there those who study them?

[He pauses for a moment.]

Pokemon are commonly sorted by the nature of their passive abilities - 17 types in all, that describe its traits. I am a Psychic-type that uses telekinesis. Other Psychic-types possess powers like dream manipulation or the use of illusions.

There are many humans who study all aspects of Pokemon, and Pokemon know much more about themselves for it.

[Robert listens to all this with a curious expression, taking in all this information. Seventeen types - the clades for Pokemon must have been very small.

An entire group called Psychic types, all with paranormal powers... what an intriguing biota.]

So instead of being sorted by genetic similarity, as species are sorted by Terran biology, they are sorted by what ability types they possess instead? What types are these, if you know all of them?

[The fact that there were humans who studied this was a little reassuring.] Ah, so there are an equivalent of biologists in your world... But all Pokemon are sapient, like yourself? [Suddenly the Pokemon world seemed even more interesting than before. An entire planet of sapients?]

The names are Fire, Water, Ice, Grass, Bug, Ghost, Psychic, Dark, Rock, Ground, Fighting, Electric, Steel, Dragon, Normal, Flying, and Poison. They describe the range of both passive and acquired abilities in Pokemon. Pokemon of a common type, though wildly different in appearance, will have similar abilities.

What do you mean by "sapient"?
