Merry/Happy/Whatever days ...

Every year -- but only in the last 7-10 or so years -- the happy holidays/Merry Christmas/keep CHRIST in Christmas/how the heck do you spell the Jewish holiday/is Kwanzaa for real conversation comes up. I think pretty much all of my regular blog readers know my opinion on this topic, so I'm really just writing this entry so I can go back to it and ( Read more... )

be dull and boring and omnipresent, holidays

Een vrolijk en gelukkig Kerstfeest to both of you, and my very best wishes for the New Year!

I'm so with you on this! Why should anyone be a Scrooge about being wished a happy anything?? They are being wished happiness for Pete's sake! Maybe a good comeback would be to say something like "Oh. You prefer I wish you sorrow or difficulties?"

When I worked at BN I greeted a customer with "Happy holidays!", and she proceeded to insist that she knew for sure that we BN employees were not allowed to say "Merry Christmas." (She'd heard it on the internet.) After a few moments of futilely trying to convince her that it was not true, I simply gave her a big smile and wished her a merry Christmas. She did not wish me a merry Christmas back...just stalked off looking somewhat like a deflated baloon. *g*

LOL! I wish I had the nerve to use that comeback! *giggles*

And of course you know if you read something on the internet, it's true :)

Thanks friend. Thanks. You just gave me a big dumb grin that won't fall off my face.

This is how the world should be.

We can hope :)

Seriously, they want to insist that they get to say "Merry Christmas" if they want to, but I'm not allowed to say "Happy Holidays" if I want to?

Yes! That! And Happy Holidays to you and the dogs :)

Exactly, man. I totally agree with KF and Ant. Say what you want, but don't get all huffy with me (like a former co-worker did a few years ago) because I say 'happy holidays'. I do say Merry Christmas sometimes - on Christmas. And I say Happy New Year - at New Years.

You bring up a good point -- a couple people said Merry Christmas to me in church this past Sunday, and I'll be honest -- it seemed a little odd!

I'm happy to accept good wishes from anyone, however they want to say them: Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Season's Greetings, whatever, I love it.

This is why we get along so well. Me too :)

Yeah, I don't get the fuss either. And now I can just link to my response each year :)
