Merry/Happy/Whatever days ...

Every year -- but only in the last 7-10 or so years -- the happy holidays/Merry Christmas/keep CHRIST in Christmas/how the heck do you spell the Jewish holiday/is Kwanzaa for real conversation comes up. I think pretty much all of my regular blog readers know my opinion on this topic, so I'm really just writing this entry so I can go back to it and ( Read more... )

Every town and village around here has "Felices Fiestas" in neon lights over its point of entry, so that's what I wish you, and I'll try to remember to snap one tonight for you :=) Whatever you call it, and however you celebrate it, have a wonderful time.

I look at it this way: If I say "Merry Christmas" to you and you don't celebrate it, I am not targeting you or your faith(s). I'm being nice and wishing you well. Take it in the spirit offered or drink a glass of STFU. -:-)

But I think Ant's point was not to say that Merry Christmas is politically incorrect. It was to say that if she chooses to use Happy Holidays (meaning Christmas + New Years), she has a right to do that and she wishes people wouldn't get upset with her about it. Just as you have a right to use Merry Christmas. Nobody is disputing that.
