Take your kid to work day

So today was take your kid to work day. There were lots of children there... including my 10 year old. I figured if anyone could sit still quietly he could so there he was. He says he had a great time even though I work in a call center taking calls for medical transportation all day long. He was thrilled to be there (and not in school ( Read more... )

I read, I laugh, I comment later...then...where the heck is your post? I have way TOO many communities. And usually the fanfics are pretty quiet - but NO, they have all gone nuts recently.

But, I love it!!! What creativity. You should scan in the buck-toothed worm! And he can entertain himself for a whole day - how wonderful.

Our front desk woman brought her son into work for an entire week - 40 hours - NOTHING to do!! Nothing. He was an angel (besides for calling me a chicken butt - don't know because I do NOT have a small butt!!). I could not believe howpleasant and enjoyable he was.

LOL
Yes everyone was talking today about well behaved he was. He made em proud. The Dorkworm however was a riot. I laugh still when I look at it. There is a scan of it over in Kalin's journal.

Ali is really very creative. He's always been bummed that he couldn't draw well. I think he's starting to feel better about himself.

yeah he always did have a aversion to art unlike his sister. Hopefully he will feel better in his own skin in the years coming.

Howdy. This is completely unrelated to this post. (Though I did comment on the pic in kalin_netstar's post on it.)

Anywho. . . I just noticed that you "friended" me - so I "friended" back. While I was on your info page, I noticed you went to Richard Montgomery!!!! I grew up in Rockville and went to Wootton (1981-1985). In fact, my old elementary school (Ritchie Park) is now a feeder school for RM.

RM was were we used to watch fireworks on the 4th of July and where we did track + field in elementary school. (My friend, Jimmy Horkan fell through the bleachers there and broke his arm.)

Small, small world.

LOL. I am sorry for the late reply. I have been so busy with this new job that I just saw yoru post. Wootton high was our rival high school. My best friend went to Wootton actually. LOL Yeah our bleachers were jacked up. AN elephant could fall through them. I remember hating highschool so much but I think it was just because I didn't have a crowd to fit in with. I went from 86-90 so I juuust missed you.

Did they have the yearly fair across the street back when you were in school? Every year they would come and transform that little field.

Hey I lived in ROckville for a good 10-12 years. You remember when the Metro train station was built and the mural across the street that everyone was upset about? Geeze. Rockville... I wonder if it is still the same.

Small world for real.

I think I remember the fair. Was it called something like "The Fireman's Carnival?"

I had forgotten about the mural until you mentioned it. I still can't remember why folks were upset, though.

My folks moved from Rockville about 10 years ago, so I haven't really been back. But, I do know that, even 10 years ago, it had changed a great deal from when I grew up there.

Folks were upset about that mural because it had all these happy white people at their picnic with all their stuff and just having a jolly good old time. Then down in the corner of the picture is a little black girl sitting on teh ground brushing this white womans hair. Only 'black' in the whole picture and she was doing 'servant' stuff.

*rolls eyes*

They made such a huge thing about it he had to re-paint the picture and turned her brush into a two scoop icecream cone or something. so she is brushing this woman's hair with an icecream.

I remember me an dmy friends just laughing about how huge of a deal they made out of such a tiny thing. All of us were black and thought it was hysterical.
