It's good to see you're having fun. Look for alligators for me (and take picutes if you spot any), please ^_^
I caught a litte baby snake on the bike path yesterday, brown and tan top, orange and brown splotched belly, smooth scales and build like a corn snake, but very different pattern. No camera with me, unfortunately. Picked her up and hassled her a bit before letting her go back into the grass.
Thanks! I will, if I see any gators. They've got to be round here somewheres, as we're right close by Bayou Lafourche. I'm told our host sometimes hunts them with his sons, but that might be something they do further north in New RhodesRoads where he came up, as they still own the family farm up there.

Coolness! Pity about your lack of camera. I'm wondering if our little snakes will still be out and about by the time I get home--I suppose it depends on how warm it stays. I hope so. I'd like to wish them a good winter's nap.
ETA: I didn't realise the town was New Roads until I heard my host call the place Chemins Neufs. I'd always thought they'd named it after the Greek island. Silly of me, I suppose. ;-)
I'm glad BP hasn't wrecked things completely, although it does sound as if the impact's still here. There were billboards in some of the Alabama shore communities for lawyers offering to handle BP claims, much like the ones in the East who advertise for personal injury claims and DUI defenses. I don't think I managed to get a picture of any of those, unfortunately.
